Blog #27: Stuff

Blog #27: Stuff

Like Dreams Upon Waking…   Colder than a witch’s tit— we venture forth, nonetheless, into the night… we see a play by that lovely, gloomy Chekhov bastard of whom I am so very fond…   after, we thrust ourselves amidst a beauteous throng of actresses—getting ourselves invited to join them for wine at a dimly lit grotto of illicit endeavorings an prurient foreshadowings…   in the flickering haze induced by candlelight and merlot, the conversation touches upon the haughty and the intellectual and the commonplace and the absurd…   and there is one who is contradictory and brash— by whose smirking lips I am obsessed, by whose dancing eyes I am thrilled, by whose soft, warm body I am heated all through— and she asks of me, in wonder: ‘Is everything out of your mouth always such utter bullshit?!”   But her contrariness, by morning, is all but forgotten— as I arrive home, the sun just rising over the horizon… the cold reality of a new day obscures the memories of the night before, leaving them to fade like dreams upon waking……   * * *   …just because I was proofing the (sort of) 2nd Edition of Mishka’s Florilegium—to be known as Mishka’s Expurgated Florilegium (and then some…)—and I thought this was neat. If only nostalgically. I miss writing poetry. It was almost like really being there…   Butanyhoo…   So what goes on? This whole blog shtick sure hasn’t caught on, hey? Good thing nobody reads it; definitely takes the pressure off writing one every week… but I shall endeavor on—and, if I’m going to have at least two posts for the month of June, time is running short…   I actually did have a (previous) second blog for June, but I deleted it. It was to (finally!) announce the publication of my debut novel Natalya’s Tale! (Woo! Woo!~) But then I changed my mind. After the extremely frustrating ordeal of publishing it, I’ve decided I will probably go a different direction… For the last ten years or so I’ve primarily been publishing through Infinity Publishing—and they’ve been great. Not so this time. And although I’ve been informed the issues and delays I experienced were an anomaly and measures would be taken to make sure it doesn’t happen again, the end result remains a book priced unrealistically high. I don’t write to get rich, but for peace...

Blog #26: Zen Mishka (1)

I Started Off Meditating and Then I Wrote This Instead   O gray, bleak day of Midnight in July — august, yet grandeurless — summer Sunday morning in June… with scorn and scorpions and scallops and misery and a light misting rain and despair… and woe, just a bit of woe — O bitter woe! — just a tweak, but a twinge — always, ever, and again, the sour taste of [bile!] abject woe in yer throat, in yer brain, think yer going to gag, vomit, retch, oh, retched, retched, retched Be, oh, being of humanity (like pizza, it smells nicer than it tastes)… and this thermos… / bouncing monkeys flinging poo — haranguing orangutans punching throats — chimps and bonobos, why can’t you just get along?! — gorillas run amok, cups overfloweth — gibbons need not apply (hey, that’s no fair!)… / Miralovna and Dzivagura walk into a bar — an ether’d, epistemological happenchancery aired (— wherefore angels fear to tread?)… surely now… there will be Death… /  and now ‘tis outright raining — O windy, windy, blustery, woo!~ / Quandary of an Angst-ridden Vagabond:  …in his vex’d abstraction, he was constantly confusing ‘fajitas’ with ‘vaginas’ — which, as one might imagine, simply caused no end to his troubles… (and then something about a Mexican night at the sorority house — and, uh!, the big, bloody mess to ensue…) / there is a sticky note (colloquially) on my desk which reads ‘Genital Herpes’; I know exactly what it is in reference to and why it is here… (only the bartender knows… and (mayhaps) Zhugovsky — who has gone away… in his muddy’d, mêlée;d, unmeshuga’d maelstrom of mookieproof’d—   Hup!  Lost my train of thought.  Therein — forthwith and alackly — go the whims of I… indeed, by troth, an’ forsoothly… anon.   *  *  *   …and maybe just a little something for the kids, too, then…   Gwens & Co.   Her thighs were called Gwen—the right was Gwen-1 and the left was Gwen-2, for such was just the way the wind blew—but the rest of her was Betty-Betty-Betty-Booooooom… and everyone called her Cerise (because of her complexion, due to her infection, as caused by her indiscretion—inspired by mere misdirection, yet induced by unsought after affection, in an unfortunate moment utterly lacking… in perspicuity…) Butanyhoo… Cerise, despite the magnanimously supernal majesty of her immaculate Gwens, felt blue. ...

Blog #25: The Telemachy of Mishka

Blog #25: The Telemachy of Mishka

Last week I finished (the rough draft of) my second novel, ‘The Telemachy of Mishka’…  (Woo! Woo!)   And, so, in lieu of writing a new blog—an activity in which I have obviously, of late, been lacking anyway—here is an (‘other) excerpt [#16 was the first] for your perusal and (presumably) enjoyment…   (In other news… yes, I’m still waiting for the first novel to get finished at the publisher.  I’d expected it to be out perhaps as early as March—definitely by April… and instead now we’re in June, and still not done.  For the record, if anybody is in need of a digital/print on demand publisher?… I no longer all endorse or recommend Infinity Publishing!…  When and if ‘Natalya’s Tale’ is ready, I’ll let you know…)   * * *   I:  Odyssey               “Sing for us, O Calliope—of youth waning into age, waxing unto wisdom!  Sing of vitality and melancholy, of desire and contentment!  Tell to us the tale of a king yet to be, from out the boy that was and the man that is!  Tell us the hardships of the half orphaned—the woe of one living in shadow!  O whimsical Muse, share thy blessed visions of a new generation of the continuing dream—for honor and nobility, for wisdom and strength and Arete!”   Beneath the sheltering shade of his favorite tree, Odysseus—mighty warrior, magnanimous king, hero of legend—pulled his gaze from the scintillating splendor of the sea to the ever more splendorous scintillation of the goddess appeared before him.  He took in the majesty of her bearing, the starkly stoic beauty of her warrior’s mien, he verily basked in the nigh electrical tingle of her sheer presence beside him, towering over him… and then, the moment of reverence and awe subsiding, he returned his gaze to the sea. “Hello, goddess,” he said, his usual gruffness not at all covering the fact he was always glad for Athena’s visits.  Scratching absently at his gray and grizzled beard, he asked, “What are you going on about?  A little old for lullabies, aren’t I?” Athena frowned, scrunchy-faced, staring down at the impudence of the man sitting—sitting!, not bowing or kneeling or begging even—before her. Odysseus peeked up at her out of the corner of his eye, the slightest bit of smirk marring his curmudgeonly frown.  He patted the ground beside himself, subtle lilt of his head. Abruptly...
